Durmitor isn’t just for rafters — it’s some of Europe’s best horse country. Wide plateaus, forest trails, and shepherd paths that connect villages 800 years old. Our horseback tours run May through October and suit complete beginners through confident riders. Here’s what to expect.
Who Can Join
We take riders from age 8 with no previous experience. Beginners start on calm, trained horses in a fenced practice area for 15 minutes, then we head out on easy trails. Experienced riders get faster horses and more demanding routes.
What You’ll See
- Open plateaus at 1,500–1,800m with 360° mountain views
- Pine forests with clear streams
- Traditional shepherd katuns (summer farms), often with stops for local cheese
- Wild horses in the distance (Durmitor has free-roaming herds)
- Views of the Tara Canyon from elevated paths
Tour Options
- 1h intro ride: practice area + short forest loop, €25
- 3h half-day: scenic forest + meadow route, includes katun stop, €60
- Full day (6h): 2 katun stops, picnic lunch, multiple viewpoints, €120
- Multi-day: overnight at katun, available June–September
What to Bring
- Long pants (jeans fine)
